Early Walk up to Navy/Army

Wednesday, November 30, 2011

Being a Pitt football fan it is natural for me to be concerned with things like football uniforms and logos before I look at the game on the field. Some of Sal's recent notes triggered this weakness of mine. It looks like Army will have some sort of desert camo uniforms for the Navy/Army game.

Some Army players tested out desert-colored cleats, which it will wear as part of Nike Pro Combat uniforms for the Navy game.

With that important item addressed, Sal also notes Trent Steelman's condition at this point in the preparation for Navy.

 “Trent is one of the bubble guys,” Ellerson said. “We are hoping, maybe the second half of the week… My hopeis we are going to trot out there and Trent will get all the rust off Thursday and Friday and then come back on Sunday and be the guy.”

There is a nice Q&A with Coach E, Steve Erzinger, Max Jenkins and Andrew Rodriguez.

Coach E. Talks about everything from the team's situation;

"It's been a tough year. Tough schedule, injuries, you name it, we had it. We had some good days and bad days. But throughout that, these guys have stayed together and continued to improve. They've established a way to play. They're not going to blink. They're not going to quit on each other or what we're doing. I think we have a chance to be a better football team that we've been all year next Saturday and it's because of that effort. It's rooted in the message of these captains."

...to the game's location

"I think it's fitting and appropriate that this game is played in our nation's capital. We're closer to Annapolis than we are West Point, but our military establishments, our leadership, the community surrounding D.C., they appreciate us and what we represent. I suspect that it's going to feel like a home field for both teams. We have a longer bus ride than they do, but I think it's entirely appropriate that this game gets played here from time to time. Obviously, we love the history and tradition associated with playing in Philadelphia. That's time-honored. But there's a special connection between both of our institutions and our nation's capital. There is all kinds of symbolism associated with that."

Frankly, I'm just glad the academies aren't taking any more of Philly's dirty SWAPS proceeds (PDF) to play the game in PA. The further the USMA distances itself from Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett the better.

Anyway, NavySports.com has Navy's game notes up.

Otherwise, Sal's chat is up, some pretty good off-week stuff there.
